Medicare open enrollment dates for 2027 coverage run from October 15 through December 7, 2026. Any changes you make during this window will take effect on January 1, 2027.

The letter provides proof that you have a special right to buy a Medigap policy or join a Medicare plan.

The special enrollment period grants you an additional 63 days to select a new plan after December 31, 2026.

Failure to enroll in a new plan prior to the end of the special enrollment period could result in a loss of coverage until next open enrollment season for 2028 and you may be subject to a lifetime prescription late enrollment penalty.
